Deputy Minister Daniel Mas condemned Codelco's overestimation of nearly 27,000 tons of copper production in 2025. The internal audit revealed deviations at the Chuquicamata and Ministro Hales divisions.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Mining Daniel Mas stated on Thursday that the internal audit confirmed the overvaluation of 26,875 tons of copper during the 2025 fiscal year. This figure represents 2% of the company's reported own production and breaks down into 20,000 tons of oxides at Chuquicamata and 6,875 tons of calcium arsenide at Ministro Hales.
Mas stressed that this was not a minor error. “We are talking about another serious failure in controls, management and the responsibility with which Codelco must be administered,” he said. He added that Codelco belongs to Chile and that altering figures affects everyone's heritage.
The company took disciplinary measures: it dismissed budget and management control manager César Márquez and reprimanded seven other executives. The board filed a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office to investigate possible crimes. Mas clarified that workers bear no responsibility for the events.
