A 32-year-old Missouri man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly strangling a coworker who received a promotion he had sought at a McAlister's Deli restaurant in Bridgeton.
Jevon Mallory was taken into custody following the incident at the restaurant around 10:30 a.m. Police said Mallory entered an office, locked the door and threatened to kill the employee before grabbing her neck and strangling her until she went limp. The restaurant's general manager heard the commotion, unlocked the door and intervened. Mallory released the victim, who escaped the office. The manager then locked Mallory inside and called police. Mallory told officers he was angry about being passed over for the promotion and had gone to the restaurant that morning intending to kill the coworker. He faces charges of assault and burglary and is being held on $500,000 cash bond at the St. Louis County Justice Center. Mallory has a prior conviction for assault in a 2014 strangulation case at Meramec Community College, for which he served 10 years in prison. A bond hearing is scheduled for June 16.
