Newcastle United have signed 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for a fee that could reach £23 million. The Netherlands Under-19 international becomes the club's third summer signing.
Sean Steur made 24 appearances for Ajax last season after joining the club's academy in 2016. He described the move as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition to play in the Premier League.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe welcomed the addition of the young prospect. Howe noted Steur's experience in the Champions League and Dutch top flight and said the club sees long-term potential in him.
The signing follows the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer. Captain Bruno Guimaraes has also expressed a desire to leave for Arsenal.
Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season and have shifted their transfer strategy toward younger players with resale value.
