New details have emerged about a March 2024 car crash involving Miami Hurricanes edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., a projected top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, as teams continue due diligence ahead of the April 23 draft. Police records reveal Bain was driving at 4 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day when the accident killed one passenger after months in a coma. Most teams consider the issue resolved, but one questions his account.
According to police records obtained by The Read Optional, 19-year-old Rueben Bain Jr. was driving a Land Rover on Interstate 95 in Miami at 4 a.m. on March 17, 2024—St. Patrick's Day—when it struck another vehicle and crashed into concrete barriers. Bain received a careless driving citation, which was dropped about two months later.
The crash involved three passengers. 22-year-old Destiny Betts suffered incapacitating injuries, remained hospitalized, and died on June 13, 2024, after nearly three months in a coma. Another passenger was also hospitalized.
The incident gained public attention over the weekend, prompting ongoing NFL team investigations. While most franchises view it as handled, one remains unsatisfied with Bain's explanation, per reports.
