Niantic Spatial has clarified that data from Pokémon Go is not shared with a drone navigation firm. The statements follow reports linking player scans to potential military use.
Niantic Spatial released statements denying that Pokémon Go data forms part of its agreement with Vantor. The partnership, announced last December, aims to combine ground and aerial data for drone navigation in GPS-denied environments.
A company spokesperson said Pokémon Go data is not shared with Niantic Spatial following the acquisition of Niantic by Scopely. AR scans were collected only from players who opted in voluntarily.
The agreement with Vantor remains in early stages, and no data sharing is involved, according to the statements. Niantic Spatial added that its models are trained on scans rather than containing copies of the original data.
