Otomate reveals August 27 release for Hakuōki spinoff game

Idea Factory's Otomate brand announced the August 27 release date for its upcoming spinoff game Hakuōki Ibun: Berezinskii no Majo during a recent event. The reveal came via a promotional video at the 'Dessert de Otomate 2026' gathering. This addition expands the long-running Hakuōki otome series.

During its 'Dessert de Otomate 2026' event on Sunday, Otomate unveiled a video for Hakuōki Ibun: Berezinskii no Majo, also known as Hakuōki Strange Tale: The Witch of Berezinski. This title serves as a spinoff to the established Hakuōki otome game franchise, confirming an August 27 launch.

The Hakuōki series draws from the historical Shinsengumi samurai group active in Kyoto in the 19th century. Otomate's most recent mainline entry, Hakuōki Shinkai: Tenun no Shō, arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2022. English localizations of various Hakuōki games have been handled by Aksys Games and Idea Factory International. More recently, Eastasiasoft brought the high school-themed spinoff Hakuōki SSL ~sweet school life~ to English audiences on February 12.

The franchise has extended beyond games into anime, starting with Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom in 2010 and Hakuōki: Record of the Jade Blood in the same year. Further adaptations include the 2012 series Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom - Dawn of the Shinsengumi and the 2016 release Hakuōki: Otogisōshi. Additional content encompasses films, original video animations, stage musicals, and live-action versions.

At the same event, Otomate introduced four new titles for Nintendo Switch, including Sullyland Nursery Rhyme. This one features a dark fantasy narrative in the floating holy city of Marenes, though no release date was specified for it or the others.
