A 24-year-old man in Pittsburgh has been found guilty of stabbing a 74-year-old victim seven times and throwing him down stairs in a random attack.
Jasper Hilliard was convicted of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, possessing an instrument of crime with intent, and resisting arrest. The case dates back more than three years to the June 3 attack on Al Carlson.
Carlson told local media that Hilliard approached him on the street, said "I got you," and began slashing with a knife before throwing him down stairs to hide the scene. The victim spent two weeks in hospital care after the assault.
Authorities described the attack as random, with Hilliard reportedly confessing that he acted after using synthetic marijuana known as K2 and did so "out of convenience." He is due to be sentenced in September.
