PLN records 44.5 GW peak load on Christmas Eve

PT PLN recorded a peak electricity load of 44.5 gigawatts (GW) on Christmas Eve, with a capacity of 70.8 GW, ensuring a safe supply with sufficient reserves. PLN CEO Darmawan Prasodjo stated that this reflects the reliability of the national power system. Thousands of personnel and support equipment were deployed to secure supply through the end of the Christmas and New Year period.

PT PLN (Persero) successfully maintained the reliability of the national electricity supply during the 2025 Christmas celebrations. On Christmas Eve, the peak load reached 44.5 GW, while the system's capacity stood at 70.8 GW. This ensured sufficient power reserves across all regions.

"We need to convey that the peak load on Christmas Eve reached 44.5 GW with a capacity of 70.8 GW. Therefore, the electricity supply last night was very safe because there were still sufficient power reserves," said PLN CEO Darmawan Prasodjo in his official statement on December 25, 2025.

To support this, PLN deployed 69,000 personnel across 3,402 posts throughout Indonesia. They remained on 24-hour alert until the end of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 readiness period (Nataru). Security priorities focused on vital facilities such as places of worship, hospitals, airports, stations, terminals, and shopping centers, backed by layered electricity supply schemes.

The personnel were equipped with various tools, including 1,917 generator sets (Genset), 737 Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), 1,338 Mobile Substations (UGB), 434 truck cranes, 4,720 operational vehicles, and 4,412 motorcycles.

Furthermore, the availability of primary energy for power plants was confirmed as safe. Coal stocks exceeded 21 days of operation, gas over 22 days, and fuel oil above 10 days, including for remote, frontier, and underdeveloped areas (3T).

Prasodjo also encouraged the public to use the PLN Mobile app to report power disruptions, which would be handled in real-time with notifications to customers.

This situation highlights PLN's thorough preparations to handle increased loads from festive Christmas decorations and activities across various regions.
