Paris Saint-Germain defeated Olympique de Marseille 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw to win the 2026 Trophee des Champions in Kuwait. The 2026 Trophee des Champions, contested between Ligue 1 champions PSG and Coupe de France holders Marseille, unfolded in Kuwait on January 8. PSG took an early lead in the 13th minute when Ousmane Dembele lobbed goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from the edge of the box after Marseille lost possession.
Marseille responded in the second half. Shots hit the posts from Timothy Weah for Marseille and Desire Doue for PSG, but Mason Greenwood equalized from the penalty spot in the 76th minute after being fouled by Chevalier. With three minutes left in regular time, Willian Pacho inadvertently scored an own goal, stretching to divert a cross and giving Marseille a 2-1 lead.
However, substitute Goncalo Ramos volleyed in a header from Bradley Barcola six minutes after entering the game, leveling the score at 2-2 in the 95th minute. The match went to penalties, where PSG's Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Doue all converted, while Chevalier saved efforts from Matt O’Riley and Hamed Traore to secure a 4-1 win.
PSG, second in Ligue 1 behind Lens, have now won the Trophee des Champions for four straight years. Marseille, third and seven points back, suffered their first loss to PSG in the competition since 2011 would have ended a long drought.
Lineups reflected absences: PSG without Achraf Hakimi at the Africa Cup of Nations and Lee Kang-in due to injury; Marseille with Amine Gouiri starting over the benched Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Leonardo Balerdi and Geoffrey Kondogbia replacing suspended players Bilal Nadir and Arthur Vermeeren.
Next, PSG host Paris FC in the Coupe de France round of 32 on Monday, while Marseille visit Bayeux on Tuesday.
