A remake of the original Resident Evil has entered early production, according to longtime insider Dusk Golem. The project began pre-production nearly a year ago.
Dusk Golem shared the update on X, stating that the remake started early production in August or September last year. The insider noted that the project will move to full production after work finishes on Resident Evil Veronica.
Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, was announced in June and is set for release in 2027. Dusk Golem also mentioned that a remake of Resident Evil Zero entered full production in late 2022.
Pre-production involves a small team handling initial concepting and prototyping. A modern take on the first Resident Evil would likely feature third-person camera and expanded features, similar to the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Earlier rumors from May 2024 suggested a possible 2026 release to mark the series 30th anniversary, but that did not occur.
