The Ministry of Health delivered the second progress report of the Oncology Alert Plan, which aims to speed up care for oncology patients on waiting lists.
The plan began on April 28, 2026, with an additional budget of 156 billion pesos. As of June 9, 2026, 25,805 attentions had been initiated or completed, representing 86% of the initial 29,997 patients.
Alejandro Berkovits, head of the Cancer Department, reported that 99.9% of patients had been contacted or had updated information. However, 39 people remain unreachable despite multiple attempts.
FONASA director César Oyarzo noted that 3,347 cases were referred to private providers, expanding coverage from 7 to 15 regions. Eighty percent of patients now receive care in their own region.
The main conditions are cervical cancer (28%), colorectal cancer (25%), and breast cancer (20%). Seventy-five percent of patients are women.
