Seoul opens 212 free water play areas to ease summer heat

The Seoul Metropolitan Government opened 212 free aquatic cooling facilities across the capital on Friday, July 11. The facilities will operate through August.

The city installed 142 splash pads and 70 dedicated water playgrounds in parks and green spaces. Recommended sites include Seoul Forest, Seoul Plaza, World Cup Park and Boramae Park.

Municipal authorities will test water quality twice a month and suspend operations if safety thresholds are not met. Lifeguards will be stationed at major playgrounds.

"We will strictly manage our park water facilities through rigorous water quality controls and safety inspections," said Kim Young-hwan, head of Seoul's Parks and Landscape Bureau. Officials advise checking the Smart Seoul Map for schedules before visiting.
