An adult man was formalized for robbery with homicide and illegal firearm possession after killing a 21-year-old student in Antofagasta. He was placed in preventive detention as the investigation proceeds.
The events took place on April 19 outside a nightclub in southern Antofagasta. The victim received a close-range shot and died at the Regional Hospital.
The Chilean adult suspect remained at large until his formalization on June 20 by the Criminal Analysis System of the Regional Prosecutor's Office. The Guarantee Court ordered preventive detention due to the risk to public safety and set a 120-day investigation period.
Two additional suspects, who allegedly supplied the firearm, had already been formalized and remain in custody. Regional Prosecutor Juan Castro Bekios stated that efforts continue to gather evidence for trial.
