Tamil Nadu CM distributes jobs to Karur stampede victims families

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay distributed government job letters to families of the 41 people killed in the September 2025 Karur stampede and announced plans to build a memorial.

On July 10, 2026, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited Karur for the first time since taking office and handed job appointment letters to families of those killed in the stampede at Velusamypuram during a TVK rally.

He said police could have alerted him to the large crowd and cancelled the meeting, as they had done earlier in Perambalur. "The police had the power to cancel meetings," he stated.

DMK leader Kanimozhi said people know who stood with victims and who fled. Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan urged that the jobs should not be politicised.
