Holland described the moment during an interview with Cinemania. He recalled hanging up the phone and telling Zendaya that Downey was coming back. The pair maintain casual catch-ups, and Downey called to share the news directly.
The actor noted on the Rich Roll podcast in 2024 that he had discussed the return with Downey. He added that the studio limits details to avoid spoilers given his past reputation.
Zendaya and Holland are promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to open July 31. They also star in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, opening July 17. Holland confirmed earlier this month that the couple married this year.
