The play written and directed by Sergio López Vigueras will run from June 14 to July 4 and August 6 to 29 at the Foro Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
The UNAM Theater production titled Áyax, cuando un soldado dispara explores themes of military obedience, masculinity and individual responsibility through the figure of the Greek hero Ajax.
The staging interweaves the mythological character's story with those of two young soldiers, Camilo and Ríos, and a girl named Cynthia affected by violence.
López Vigueras noted that the play aims to show how an order can become a tragic fate and how obedience can lead to acts contrary to one's sense of self.
The cast includes Raúl Villegas as Áyax, Federico Zapata as Ríos, Tony Corrales as Camilo, Paulina Álvarez as Cynthia and Jorge Ríos as Canuto. Performances will be Thursdays and Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 7 pm and Sundays at 6 pm, with a suspension on June 18.
