Wisconsin man pleads not guilty in fatal drunk-driving crash

Douglas Proehl, a 69-year-old Wisconsin man, pleaded not guilty to charges including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after a January crash that killed 17-year-old Chloe Bishop and injured her father. Police reported his blood alcohol content was 0.115, more than the legal limit, and he appeared more concerned about his new truck than the victims. He remains in custody after a judge denied a bond reduction.

Douglas Proehl was arraigned in Brown County court on April 13, months after the January 30 crash in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. Authorities said Proehl drove his truck through a red light at high speed, striking the Toyota Corolla carrying Chloe Bishop and her father, Daniel Bishop. Surveillance video captured the truck failing to brake until just before impact, and a witness confirmed it ran the light. Daniel Bishop suffered broken ribs and told police, 'This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me, knowing I'll never speak to my daughter again. I am not angry, just sad and depressed.'
