The incident took place around 3:40 a.m. on December 28 at a cockfighting arena near the Las Damas vereda in rural Algeciras, a municipality known as the agricultural hub of Huila. Yolanda Dussán, who was working there, was struck by a projectile from a traumatic weapon in her left cheekbone, also affecting her cheek and parietal region.
According to the Huila Police Department, the Algeciras hospital received a call reporting the arrival of the injured patient. Local residents quickly transported her by vehicle to the municipal medical center, where she received initial aid before being transferred by ambulance to a higher-level hospital in Neiva for further tests to rule out serious injuries.
Police stated: “The version provided by the community indicates that she was attending the cockfighting arena when she was assaulted with a traumatic weapon in the left cheekbone, without identifying the aggressor or establishing the motive for the attack, who then fled in an unknown direction.” The event has raised concerns in the area, highlighting violence in rural zones. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrator, though motives and attacker details remain unknown.
