Alexander Zverev moved into the No. 2 spot in the ATP rankings after reaching the Wimbledon final, despite losing to Jannik Sinner. Carlos Alcaraz remains at No. 3 following a long injury absence.
Zverev lost the Wimbledon final to Sinner 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 on July 12. The defeat marked his first appearance in the championship match at the All England Club.
The German player now holds 8,480 ranking points, ahead of Alcaraz's 8,160. Zverev had trailed the Spaniard by a wide margin before Alcaraz withdrew from competition in April with a wrist injury.
Alcaraz has not played since the Barcelona Open and is skipping the National Bank Open in Montreal. He aims to return at the Cincinnati Masters, which begins on August 13.
Zverev is scheduled to compete at the Montreal Masters starting August 2. In a June interview, he said he wants to keep playing for another ten years to pursue the world No. 1 ranking.
