A$AP Rocky performed songs from his long-awaited fourth studio album 'Don't Be Dumb'—released January 16, 2026—during his debut as musical guest on Saturday Night Live on January 17. The Harlem rapper opened with 'Punk Rocky' and followed with a medley of 'Helicopter' and the title track amid a back-alley set, capping a nearby album release party.
A$AP Rocky marked his first appearance as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live on January 17, 2026—the day after Don't Be Dumb dropped—with vivid performances at Studio 8H in New York City. He opened with the lead single 'Punk Rocky,' featuring Danny Elfman on drums, Thundercat on bass, pink hair curlers, and a megaphone against a spray-painted garage backdrop echoing the music video with Winona Ryder, Elfman, Thundercat, and A$AP Nast. Rocky followed with a medley blending 'Helicopter' and the title track 'Don't Be Dumb.'
The performances capped an album release party held late Thursday night near the SNL studio. This was Rocky's musical debut on the show, though he previously appeared in a 2018 sketch 'Friendos' with Kenan Thompson and Donald Glover. He also joined the 'Snack Homiez' sketch as a teen podcaster alongside host Finn Wolfhard and a Sabrina Carpenter cameo.
Don't Be Dumb is Rocky's first full-length project in nearly eight years since Testing in 2018. The 15-track album, announced in June 2024 with an initial August target, faced delays; Rocky confirmed mixing/mastering in February 2025 and a January drop in December 2025. NME named it one of 2026's most anticipated releases, preceded by singles 'Pray4DaGang,' 'Ruby Rosary,' 'Tailor Swif,' and 'Punk Rocky.' Highlights include collaborations with Will.i.am, Doechii, Gorillaz, Jon Batiste, Tyler, The Creator, and a presumed Drake diss on 'Stole Ya Flow' referencing Rihanna; a teased Morrissey feature was omitted. Filmmaker Tim Burton designed the cover art, depicting Rocky's six distinct personas.
Reflecting on his deliberate pace, Rocky told Perfect Magazine last fall: “I don’t do all these different endeavours just because I got to be the first at the top of the mountain and plant the flag... It’s about who did it the best.” He added, “I don’t do things to just try and stay relevant... I try to do natural things, creative, ambitious things that really satisfy me.”
The release follows Rocky's February 2025 acquittal in a 2021 shooting case, his November 2025 Chanel ambassadorship, and the September 2025 birth of his third child with Rihanna. In 2025, he appeared in films If I Had Legs I’d Kick You with Rose Byrne and Conan O’Brien, and Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest with Denzel Washington. No tour has been announced, but Rocky will headline Governors Ball in Queens in June.
