Alexander Zverev won his first Grand Slam title at the French Open but acknowledged that Jannik Sinner remains his toughest opponent. The German defeated Flavio Cobolli in the final without facing any top-five players. Zverev spoke about the matchup at Queen's Club on June 11.
Zverev beat Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 to claim the title. He noted that Sinner had already exited in the second round after a loss to Juan Manuel Cerúndolo.
In comments reported that day, Zverev described Sinner as the best player. “He doesn’t let you breathe. He doesn’t let you get into matches; he comes at you very, very quickly,” he said. Zverev added that he lost the Madrid final to Sinner 6-1, 6-2 earlier in the year.
Sinner leads their head-to-head 10-4 after winning the last nine encounters. Zverev expressed hope for a rematch at Wimbledon, which starts June 29.
Zverev, seeded second for the grass-court event, said he wants to face Sinner in big matches and believes his game can improve against the world number one.
