Alexandra Eala earns first Wimbledon seeding after grass success

Alexandra Eala will enter Wimbledon as a seeded player for the first time after strong recent results on grass. The 21-year-old Filipino is seeded 29th and currently ranked world No. 35.

Eala reached the semifinals in Auckland early in the 2026 season, becoming the first player from the Philippines to break into the WTA top 50. Her form dipped on clay, where she exited in the first round at Roland Garros.

On grass she lifted a WTA 125 title in Birmingham and reached the semifinals in Berlin. Those results lifted her into the seeded positions at the All England Club.

Before Wimbledon, Eala is competing at the Bad Homburg Open. She will face Elise Mertens in singles and partner Venus Williams in doubles after an opponent withdrawal altered their round-of-16 matchup.
