AMC CEO hails Netflix's Narnia release as theater opportunity

AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron described Netflix's upcoming wide theatrical release of Greta Gerwig's Narnia film as the biggest opportunity for theaters to partner with the streamer. He highlighted improving industry momentum during an earnings call. The release is scheduled for February 2027.

Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Theatres, expressed optimism about the movie industry's direction on Tuesday during a call with analysts following first-quarter earnings. “The momentum in the industry is palpable,” Aron said, citing new studio commitments to longer theatrical windows and recent labor contracts between guilds and producers. He specifically praised Netflix's decision to provide a full global theatrical release for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, based on C.S. Lewis’ 1955 novel, calling it “the biggest opportunity our industry has ever had to embrace Netflix as a theatrical content provider.” The film’s global wide release is set for February 12, 2027, followed by a Netflix drop on April 2, 2027. Originally, it was slated for a limited two-week run on 1,000 Imax screens over Thanksgiving 2026. Aron attributed the change to successful prior collaborations, including AMC screenings of Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters Singalong over Halloween weekend, the Stranger Things finale on New Year’s Eve, and One Piece episodes in March. “There’s been a tremendous amount of high-level diplomacy” between AMC and Netflix since last fall, he noted, adding that both companies aim to work together more. While declining to predict further developments, Aron said the “interpersonal dynamic” is positive.
