Nineteen-year-old Mira Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, beating qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the final.
Andreeva, the eighth seed from Russia, reached the final after dropping just one set. She eliminated three seeded players en route, including Marie Bouzkova, Sorana Cirstea and Marta Kostyuk. Chwalinska, a 24-year-old ranked 114th, became the first qualifier to reach the Roland Garros final. The Polish left-hander defeated three seeded opponents and former world number four Qinwen Zheng during her run. The match was played on Court Philippe-Chatrier with the roof open and gusts up to 31 mph. Andreeva broke serve five times and converted key winners to close out the straight-sets victory. She is the youngest champion in Paris since Monica Seles won in 1992 at age 18.
