On June 12 the National Infrastructure Agency reverted the 106-kilometer road corridor in Cundinamarca after the early termination of the concession contract.
The ANI transferred administration, conservation and management of the Perimetral del Oriente de Cundinamarca to Invías, the Cundinamarca Governor’s Office and the municipality of La Calera. The move followed an international arbitration tribunal ruling that terminated Concession Contract No. 002 of 2014 and ordered the Colombian State to pay compensation of US$305 million.
The concessionaire Perimetral Oriental de Bogotá S.A.S., formed by Shikun & Binui and InfraRed Capital Partners, had signed the contract in July 2014. The project faced delays due to water bodies not included in initial studies and technical problems on the La Calera-Choachí and Choachí-Cáqueza sections.
ANI president Óscar Torres said the reversion allows formal transfer of the corridors to the competent entities. Executive vice president Roberto Uparela clarified that the exit of the private concessionaire does not mean the road will be left unattended.
