Ben Rice hits ninth-inning homer to lift Yankees past Blue Jays

Ben Rice delivered a two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the New York Yankees an 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday at Rogers Centre. The blast marked the second consecutive game in which the Yankees secured victory with a tie-breaking ninth-inning home run.

Rice connected on a slider from Braydon Fisher for his team-leading 19th home run of the season. The drive cleared the right-field wall and improved New York to a 5-1 record on its road trip.

José Caballero added a three-run homer that broke the game open, while Anthony Volpe drove in two runs with singles. Ali Sánchez contributed an RBI double in his first hit as a Yankee. Will Warren allowed two runs over four innings to earn the win.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider was ejected in the eighth inning after arguing a balk call on reliever Jeff Hoffman. Davis Schneider had tied the game earlier with a sixth-inning homer for Toronto.

The victory gave the Yankees their first series win in Toronto since September 2023. Manager Aaron Boone noted the improved finish to the trip and the group's next-man-up approach.
