Billie Eilish concert documentary delayed to May

James Cameron announced that the 3D concert film 'Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft,' which he co-directed with the singer, has been postponed to May 8. The delay allows time for refining the cut and incorporating new 3D technology. Originally set for March 20, the documentary was filmed during Eilish's tour, including shows in Manchester.

James Cameron shared the update on Monday via Threads and Instagram, stating that the release of the Billie Eilish 3D concert documentary “Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft” has been pushed two months to May 8 through Paramount. “We’re refining the cut; dialing in cool, new 3D tech; adding some special behind-the-scenes we know you’ll love. @hitmehardandsoftmovie will now release Friday, May 8th. Worth the wait!” Cameron wrote.

The film, produced in partnership with Darkroom Records, Interscope Films, and Lightstorm Earth, captures footage from Eilish's tour, including concerts in Manchester, England, last July. During one of those shows, Eilish addressed the audience about the project: “Basically, I can’t say much about it but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron and it’s going to be in 3D. So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.”

Reflecting on the tour's final night in November, Eilish expressed enthusiasm: “This is one of my favorite tours everrrrrr and being able to capture it and co-direct this film with [James Cameron] has truly been a dream come true,” she wrote. “Can’t wait for you all to see it.” The delay follows the original March 20 date, prioritizing enhancements to the film's innovative 3D elements.
