President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced Brazilian humanitarian aid to Venezuela, hit by two earthquakes on Wednesday (24). The first mission, with firefighters and equipment, departs on Friday (26).
Two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck the Venezuelan coast on Wednesday night (24), leaving at least 188 dead and more than 1,500 injured. The Morón area in La Guaira state was hardest hit, with collapsed buildings and power outages.
President Lula confirmed, after a phone call with interim President Delcy Rodríguez, the dispatch of a Brazilian Air Force KC-390 plane. The aircraft will depart from Guarulhos Airport at 10 a.m. on Friday (26) carrying 36 firefighters from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná, plus technicians from Civil Defense and Anatel.
A second flight is scheduled for Saturday (27) with equipment for a field hospital, 100 solar-powered water purifiers, medicines and surgical supplies. Itamaraty confirmed the deaths of two Brazilians in the tragedies and is providing consular assistance to families.
