Eduardo Rodriguez delivered a dominant outing on Sunday, pitching into the ninth inning for the first time in his 11-year career to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-1 win over the New York Mets at Chase Field.
Manager Torey Lovullo approached Rodriguez in the dugout after the eighth inning and offered his hand, but the left-hander declined. He wanted to stay on the mound and finish what he started. Rodriguez worked 8 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on four hits and three walks while throwing only 46 pitches through the first five frames.
