Egypt coordinates with Somali and Yemeni officials to free sailors on hijacked vessel

Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with authorities in Somalia and Yemen to secure the release of Egyptian sailors held aboard the hijacked MT Eureka off the Somali coast.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has directed daily monitoring of the incident. He instructed the Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu to maintain continuous high-level contact with all relevant Somali authorities.

The diplomatic efforts focus on expediting the crew’s release and ensuring decent living conditions for the Egyptian sailors while they remain on board. The embassy has also established a line of communication between the sailors and their families.

Simultaneously the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh which is accredited to the Yemeni government has been instructed to communicate with official Yemeni authorities and the ship’s owner. Abdelatty has additionally ordered the ministry’s consular sector to hold regular meetings with the families of the sailors.
