Egyptian and US officials celebrated the completion of the restoration of the 15th-century Sultan Qaitbey Mausoleum in Cairo's City of the Dead.
The celebration was attended by US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, and Archinos Architecture Director Agnieszka Dobrowolska.
The project was funded by a $340,000 grant awarded by the US Embassy in 2022 through the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.
Silverman said these efforts are more than a record of the past and form a bridge to the future, reflecting America’s commitment to shared heritage.
Fathy praised the historic US-Egyptian cooperation in heritage conservation and the recovery of smuggled antiquities.
The United States has invested more than $3.5 million in 17 such projects across Egypt.
