Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the government is still evaluating the budget strategy for the Free Nutritious Meals Program this year, including a possible reduction in allocation.

Purbaya made the statement after attending the plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (20/7/2026). He will meet National Nutrition Agency Head Nanik S. Deyang this week to discuss the program's strategy.

"I want to meet (the BGN head) this week, to see what his final strategy is for this year. But clearly there is a possibility of a decrease," Purbaya said.

President Prabowo Subianto had earlier reaffirmed the government's commitment to continue the MBG program for students, pregnant women, and the elderly. He described providing nutritious meals as a basic measure of national independence.
