Mindy Osteen, 35, was sentenced to 100 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 2025 shooting death of her children's father at a Florida daycare.
The sentencing follows the July 25, 2025, attack at Auntie Lili's Daycare in Starke, about 45 miles southwest of Jacksonville. Osteen approached Christopher Jones as he loaded their children into his vehicle and fired multiple shots from a 9 mm handgun, according to police.
Witnesses and security footage described Osteen firing three shots, backing up, then firing two more as Jones sat in the driver's seat. She allegedly said, "You got to die," and "Please, let the monster die," during the incident. At least six other children and two employees were inside the facility.
Osteen told arriving deputies she acted in self-defense. Jones identified her as the shooter before he died at a hospital. She initially faced first-degree murder charges but pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, firearm possession by a felon, and other counts including discharging a weapon near a school.
