Berlin actor Frederick Lau is spending more time at home with his family and avoiding events. The 36-year-old says he has discovered the joys of domestic life with age. He only goes out for important occasions or with his children.
Frederick Lau, known from films like Victoria and series like 4 Blocks, has changed his approach. Previously, he wanted to experience everything and feared missing out. “A while ago, I wanted to experience as much as possible and was afraid of missing something. That has subsided by now,” he tells the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. At 36, he simply looks forward to being home after intense work phases.
Today, he attends events only if they are essential, friends request it, or he enjoys children's film premieres with his kids. “I have found that it really makes me happy to be with my family,” Lau emphasizes. He is married to presenter Annika Lau and has three children.
Filming often separates him from his family for months—most recently 2.5 months on Mallorca. Upon returning, he must reintegrate: “When I come home again, I have to fight with my wife and children to become part of the family again. It works quite well without me.” He expects a joyful welcome, but daily routines like school and work take precedence. Lau strives for shared activities such as weekend outings or cutting a Christmas tree to show: “I'm here, I love you.”
This balance between career and private life shapes his current existence and highlights his appreciation for family bonds.
