Japan's government announced the replacement of Tadashi Mogi, a senior official and close aide to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, following reports of an extramarital affair involving state-funded trips.
The government said Friday that Mogi, a secretary to Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara on secondment from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will be replaced on Tuesday by Keisuke Sasaki. Mogi had worked under Takaichi during her time as senior vice minister at the ministry.
A monthly magazine reported earlier this month that Mogi invited a woman to hotels in Osaka at public expense during trips tied to last year's World Expo. Kihara stated at a press conference that an investigation by the ministry is ongoing but did not give reasons for the personnel change.
