Gunshots rang out inside the senate building on wednesday night as sen. ronald bato dela rosa took refuge there to avoid arrest. President ferdinand marcos jr. said the government had no involvement and issued no orders to arrest dela rosa.
On the night of may 13, 2026, multiple gunshots rang out inside the senate complex in manila. Sen. dela rosa had been inside for three days seeking refuge from an international criminal court arrest warrant tied to the drug war.
Marcos said he personally monitored the situation and coordinated with the philippine national police and national bureau of investigation. He confirmed no military or nbi personnel entered the senate.
Senate president alan peter cayetano said the senate was under attack and hid with other senators in a room. Interior secretary jonvic remulla and pnp chief melencio nartatez arrived to secure the senators.
No one was injured in the incident and investigations by the senate and pnp are ongoing. Dela rosa remains in the senate while awaiting a supreme court decision on his petition against the warrant.
