HUV manager denounces bribe demands by intervened EPS

Hospital Universitario del Valle manager Irene Torres denounced that representatives of Emssanar, Asmet Salud and Coosalud demand irregular payments to authorize disbursements for services already provided.

Torres stated that the hospital refused to make these payments and that as a result the EPS suspended the transfers. The institution stopped receiving more than 30 billion pesos, affecting salary payments and the purchase of supplies.

Emssanar, Asmet Salud and Coosalud represent nearly 70 percent of patients treated at the HUV, equivalent to about 23,000 users. Emssanar's historical accounts receivable with the hospital exceed 213 billion pesos.

As a measure, the HUV suspended outpatient, surgical and scheduled services for Emssanar affiliates, who will only be attended for emergencies. Torres noted that another private institution received 30 billion pesos in the same period.
