Jannik Sinner defeats Alexander Zverev convincingly at Paris ATP Masters

In the semi-final of the ATP Masters in Paris, Jannik Sinner defeated German defending champion Alexander Zverev convincingly 6:0, 6:1. The Italian now faces Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final and could reclaim the world number one ranking with a win. Zverev must continue waiting for his eighth title at a 1000-level tournament.

Just six days after losing the final in Vienna, Alexander Zverev has again been defeated by Jannik Sinner. At the ATP Masters in Paris, the 28-year-old German fell to the world number three and Wimbledon champion from Italy 0:6, 1:6. This marks Zverev's fourth consecutive loss to the South Tyrolean, dashing his hopes of successfully defending his title in the French capital.

Zverev had beaten Daniil Medvedev in a tight match on Friday, ending a streak of five losses against the Russian. However, against Sinner, confidence was lacking: He played passively, committed many unforced errors, and trailed 0:4 after 20 minutes in the first set. On the slow court in the Rugby Arena at La Défense, Zverev lacked the tools to counter the solid Sinner, who notched his 25th straight win on indoor hardcourt. It was Zverev's first 0:6 set since the semi-final at Roland Garros 2023 against Casper Ruud.

In the second set, Zverev held his first service game, but at 1:2, he called the trainer for pain in his right ankle and took a tablet. It did not improve his game, and Sinner advanced to the final. There, he will face Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated Alexander Bublik in two sets. A tournament win would be Sinner's fifth this year and would see him reclaim the top world ranking spot from Carlos Alcaraz on Monday.
