Jessica Pegula defeated Iva Jovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 on July 5 to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time since 2023.
Pegula dropped the opening set but recovered strongly in the next two against the 18-year-old American. She broke Jovic's serve eight times overall and improved her first-serve points won to above 80 percent after the first set.
“That was very tough,” Pegula said in her post-match interview. “I know Iva is a great player. She flipped herself as a top player, has a lot of energy, and is very intense from the start.” She added that she felt she could not find herself in the first set but kept breaking and eventually figured out the match on grass.
The victory sets up a quarterfinal against the winner of Coco Gauff versus Belinda Bencic. Pegula last reached this stage at the All-England Club in 2023.
