Spanish cyclist Juan Ayuso ended the Tour de France in seventh place overall, short of the podium he sought. The Lidl-Trek rider expressed frustration but highlighted his effort in Saturday's queen stage.
Ayuso, 23 and from Jávea, started as Lidl-Trek leader in his second Tour. After staying close to the best in the early mountains, he lost ground in the third week.
In stage 20 finishing at Alpe d’Huez, the Spaniard attacked from the start but was reeled in. “It is more frustration than disappointment, because when one gives everything one cannot ask for much more,” he said at the finish.
Tadej Pogacar claimed his fifth Tour victory, while Richard Carapaz won the queen stage. Lidl-Trek secured the green jersey with Mads Pedersen and placed two riders in the top seven.
