Kristillisdemokraattien kärkiehdokas Martin Antblad on tehnyt ehdotuksen kunnan nimen muuttamisesta ennen syksyn kunnallisvaaleja.

Ehdotuksen tavoitteena on nostaa esiin Särnan ja Idren alueita. Antbladin mukaan nämä paikat jäävät usein varjoon, koska huomio keskittyy nimeen Älvdalen.Ajatus esitettiin keinona luoda enemmän tasapainoa kunnan identiteettiin.
