A 67-year-old man in Mount Washington, Kentucky, has been charged with murder after police found him attempting to load his wife's battered body into a pickup truck. Richard Chesher allegedly used a piece of wood to beat her so severely that she was unrecognizable. Officers arrested him without incident on Friday night.
Police in Mount Washington, Kentucky, responded to a call at the Chesher residence on Williamsburg Court on Friday night, where they discovered Richard Chesher, 67, covered in blood in his garage. According to the arrest report, Chesher stood next to the bloodied body of his wife, which showed signs of extreme violence around the face and head, rendering her unrecognizable.
Investigators noted a trail of blood leading from inside the house to the garage. At the scene, they found a club-like piece of wood covered in blood, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. The wife's body was wrapped with a garden hose, and a pickup truck was backed up to the garage door with a makeshift ramp leading to the truck bed, suggesting Chesher was trying to dispose of the remains.
When officers arrived, Chesher attempted to close the garage door on them but was detained peacefully. Local reports from affiliates WDKY and WAVE detailed the gruesome discovery, emphasizing the severity of the beating.
Chesher faces charges of murder, domestic violence, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse. He appeared in court on Monday, where a judge set his bail at $1 million cash. His next court date for a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 17.
