Lee “Scratch” Perry’s final album with Mouse on Mars due in June

Nearly five years after his death, Jamaican dub legend Lee “Scratch” Perry’s final album, Spatial, No Problem, arrives June 5 via Domino. The project reunites him with German electronic duo Mouse on Mars, who produced the eight tracks. The lead single, “Rockcurry,” is now available.

Lee “Scratch” Perry, the influential Jamaican producer known for shaping reggae and dub sounds, completed his last album sessions in December 2019 at Mouse on Mars’ Paraverse Studio in Berlin. The duo, Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma, captured the record during a relaxed collaboration filled with laughter and shared meals of fish soup and papayas, according to a press statement from St. Werner. “We hardly spoke about what we were doing. We met and got going,” St. Werner said. “He was laughing a lot and we laughed along. We also cooked and ate fish soup and papayas.” The album’s title stems from Perry’s casual response to a question about Spatial Audio: “Spatial, no problem.” Mouse on Mars shared the lead track “Rockcurry” alongside the announcement. Spatial, No Problem features eight songs: Rockcurry, Hallo Shiva, Economic Train, Spatialee, Fire Dali, Yayaya, To The Rescue, and State Of Emergency. To mark the release, London’s Barbican Centre will host a sound installation of the album in spatial audio on a D&B Soundscape system from June 5 to 13 in its studio theatre, The Pit, as part of the Project A Black Planet exhibition.
