Lil Nas X opens up about rehab and bipolar diagnosis in new video

Lil Nas X shared a candid Instagram video discussing his time in rehab, therapy, and bipolar disorder diagnosis. The 27-year-old musician, born Montero Hill, addressed fans after months away from the spotlight. He expressed feeling better and hinted at upcoming music.

In the video, Lil Nas X said he had been in rehab for a few months and was now back home in Atlanta with family or in Los Angeles with friends. He credited a therapist and psychiatrist with helping him ground himself and reduce fear in his heart.

He acknowledged knowing about his bipolar diagnosis for years but avoiding medication and admission due to concerns about how others would perceive him. Lil Nas X joked about living life on “extreme hard mode” as a Black and gay man while noting he feels improved and is creating freely.

In April he entered a mental health diversion program tied to his August 2025 arrest. A Los Angeles judge linked the incident, which involved alleged battery of three police officers, to the diagnosis. The case will be dismissed if he follows his treatment plan and obeys laws for the next two years.

Lil Nas X thanked fans for their support and confirmed new music is on the way, though he is not rushing the return to the spotlight.
