Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Andoni Iraola to become their new manager. The move comes after the club parted company with Arne Slot on Saturday.
Iraola is set to sign a two-year contract at Anfield. He is expected to bring assistants Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper with him, although Bournemouth have not yet been contacted about the pair. The former Bournemouth boss guided the club to a sixth-place finish in the 2025-26 Premier League season. This result came despite losing key players including Milos Kerkez to Liverpool and Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City. Liverpool finished fifth, 25 points behind champions Arsenal. The club’s statement on Slot’s departure mentioned the need for a “different approach”. John Barnes, a former Liverpool player, said the owners did not want to sack Slot but acted after fans lost faith in the manager.
