Man arrested for attempted murder after hammer attack on woman

Police in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, have arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he hit a woman in her 40s multiple times on the head with a hammer-like object in his apartment. The man allegedly lured the woman from the building's common area into his room around 7 p.m. on Friday. The woman escaped and sought help, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred in an apartment building in front of Hiro Station in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The suspect, 42-year-old Noboru Ogawa of unknown occupation, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. According to police, Ogawa lured the woman, who was in the building's common area, into his apartment around 7 p.m. on Friday, as reported by the Chugoku Shimbun.

Once inside, Ogawa allegedly struck the woman several times on the head with what appeared to be a hammer. The woman managed to escape and called for help from another tenant. During questioning, she told police she did not know Ogawa. Her injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Ogawa admitted to the act during police interrogation, stating, "It's true that I hit her with the hammer, but I didn't intend to kill her." Authorities are investigating the motive and circumstances further. The attack in a residential setting has drawn local attention, highlighting concerns over sudden violence in everyday spaces.
