Masters of Albion to launch on PC in April

Peter Molyneux's latest project, Masters of Albion, has secured a release date of April 22 on PC via Steam. The game, developed by Molyneux and 22cans, is described as a bold reimagining of the God Game genre. Molyneux has called it the culmination of his life's work.

Peter Molyneux, the veteran game designer known for titles like Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable, has announced that Masters of Albion will arrive on PC through Steam on April 22. This upcoming title from his studio, 22cans, promises players the freedom of true godhood in a world called Albion, where they can build, hire, and shape the environment as they see fit.

The official Steam description highlights the game's open-ended nature: "Masters of Albion is a bold reimagining of the God Game genre, from the creator who defined it. Revel in the freedom of true Godhood. In Masters of Albion, there is no single solution, only your solution. Build whatever, wherever. Hire whoever, whenever. Kill or carry, crush or coax. You are the ultimate power."

Molyneux has emphasized the game's roots in his past works, stating it owes "so much" to Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable. He described it as "a totally unique game that we hope will delight players, a game that brings God Games into the modern gaming landscape and puts the genre firmly back on the map."

The project was revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. In an interview ahead of the announcement, Molyneux reflected on his motivations: "I'm in my 60s now… My lifestyle is so awful. My life expectancy is probably measured in seconds rather than years. So if I'm going to design another game, it's got to matter."

Masters of Albion allows players to command the world using ancient powers, placing the fate of Albion directly in their hands. A launch date trailer is available for viewing.
