Juan Carlos Nieto, aged 56 and a civil servant at the Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal in Mérida for 15 years, has been subject to disciplinary proceedings. Management accuses him of handling procedures for users without prior appointments during free moments and of not requiring documents already held by the administration. Last Wednesday, around 300 neighbors gathered in front of the SEPE office on Calle Baviano to show support. The protest, organized by the 25 de Marzo union and Campamento Dignidad, included a signature collection and calls for the resignation of his superiors. Nieto has stated he will continue assisting citizens as part of his job. The Ministry of Labor indicates the file includes other confidential reasons, while the Ombudsman has requested explanations from the ministry.
