Mike DeFabo Names Derrick Harmon Steelers Breakout Candidate for 2026

Mike DeFabo of The Athletic has selected Derrick Harmon as the Pittsburgh Steelers' breakout candidate for the 2026 season. The defensive tackle was drafted 21st overall in 2025 and showed promise despite injury limitations as a rookie.

Harmon appeared in 12 games during his first year and recorded 3 sacks along with 5 quarterback hits. DeFabo noted that the Steelers allowed an average of 166 rushing yards in the games Harmon missed compared to just over 90 when he played.

The 6-4, 313-pound player demonstrated quick hips and strong hands that helped him in the run game. DeFabo said Harmon’s main challenge will be staying healthy while adding more as a pass rusher.

The Steelers plan to expand Harmon’s pass-rush skills. He is expected to learn from veterans Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton as the team prepares for the future of its defensive line.
