Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to Mohamed Salah following the announcement of the Egyptian's departure from Anfield at the end of the season. Ahead of a charity match, Klopp hailed Salah's record-breaking standards and professionalism during their time together.
Following Liverpool's confirmation earlier this week that Mohamed Salah will leave at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, former manager Jurgen Klopp offered glowing praise for the Egyptian forward. Speaking ahead of a charity match between Liverpool legends and Borussia Dortmund legends, Klopp reflected on their shared journey since Salah's arrival from Roma in 2017.
Salah leaves as one of the Reds' all-time top scorers with 255 goals in 435 appearances, third behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285). He contributed to seven major trophies under Klopp's tenure, including the Champions League, two Premier League titles (one post-Klopp), FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup—highlighted by last season's record 47 goal involvements.
'I think Mo and I, we had big dreams, but I think we didn’t dare to dream that big,' Klopp said. 'The numbers he produced, the standards he set, I think some of them, if not all, will stay unmatched. In this modern Premier League era, definitely.'
Klopp praised Salah's resilience amid praise and criticism: 'He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever met, he’s one of the best people I’ve ever met.' Their relationship featured occasional arguments but was marked by an 'incredible journey' resolved for the right reasons.
Salah's exit signals the end of an era at Anfield, where he elevated the club while upholding exceptional personal standards.
